Uganda's Road to AFCON 2027: What Put Needs to Fix Before the Home Tournament
The Honest Starting Point
Uganda are not currently a competitive AFCON team. The squad is mid-tier at best. Put has 18 months to change that. The road is long and the deadlines are unmovable.
The Three Fixes
Settle the goalkeeper. Find a proven goalscorer who can play every game. Identify a midfield spine that can press for 90 minutes. Without those three, Uganda are group-stage exit candidates at their own tournament.
What Would Look Like Progress
Beating one of Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, or Morocco in friendlies. Reaching the AFCON 2027 quarter-final. Avoiding a home group-stage exit. Anything beyond that is bonus territory.
