NPFL Matchday 10: Rivers United, Rangers and Nasarawa United Level on 17 Points
The 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League is turning into a proper title race. After Matchday 10, three clubs sit on 17 points, and the next group of teams is only two points behind. The league enters its eleventh round with very little separating the top from the middle.
The top three
Rivers United still lead on goal difference with plus ten, and they have the best defence in the league with only four goals conceded. They lost 2-1 away to Bendel Insurance on Sunday, which stopped them from pulling clear. Enugu Rangers also have 17 points, but from only eight matches, so they have two games in hand.
Nasarawa United joined them on 17 points after a 1-0 win over Enyimba. Plateau United are fourth on 15 points after a 2-2 draw with Katsina United on Saturday. Several clubs on 14 and 15 points, including Sporting Lagos and Kano Pillars, can still move up quickly.
Other results from the weekend
Kun Khalifat beat Inter Lagos 1-0, and Niger Tornadoes won 1-0 away at Abia Warriors. There were draws between Barau and Kwara United at 1-1, Warri Wolves and Kano Pillars at 0-0, and Ikorodu City and Shooting Stars at 2-2. Draws remain common in the NPFL, because travel is tiring and visiting teams often play for a point.
For supporters in Port Harcourt, Enugu, Lafia and Jos, the main story is how tight the race has become. A good run of three wins can move a club from mid-table into the top three. That is why goal difference and games in hand are worth watching.
The bottom of the table
Inter Lagos are last on two points after league management deducted three points and three goals. Enyimba and Ranchers Bees both have eight points, which puts two well-known names in a difficult place. Abia Warriors are just above them on ten points.
It is still early, so none of these clubs is finished. Enyimba have a famous history and the squad to recover, but they need results soon. The next fixtures include Ranchers Bees against Doma United on 18 November and Rangers against Sporting Lagos on 25 November.
